Our story differs.... depending on who you ask! Today you will hear the story according to me, Molly. We both agree that we officially met (for the second time) at the epic Dennison graduation party in 2007. Although the true details are slightly blurry, we have been in each others lives since. While there was a connection from when we first met, as Juan was living in New Jersey and I in Rhode Island, a relationship just did not make sense. Juan was hopeful and we started to become close friends. We bonded over music, our love for the Red Sox and that we both had Verizon wireless service (so that allowed us unlimited minutes to talk to one another over the phone). With a sense of adventure and need to explore the world, especially Spanish speaking countries, I had always wanted to go to South America. Juan, being Chilean, planned a trip to Chile, Uruguay, & Argentina with me and his two high school buddies. Unfortunately, there was an earthquake in Chile days before we were all supposed to meet up in Santiago. His two friends decided this was not their time to visit with all the chaos and the damage that occurred in the country. Juan felt heartbreak for his homeland and I still felt a strong urge to see South America. We had 3 weeks of hard earned vacation, so we decided to reorganize our trip and still go. It was a trip of a lifetime! Filled with pisco sours, empanadas and Latino music. We have been together ever since. Now...6 + years later, we are getting married!
How NachoandGuacaMoLLY came to be?! Why we never thought of this sooner is a surprise to both of us. Juan's full name is Juan Ignacio Caneo. Nacho is a nickname for Ignacio and Juan was known as "Nacho" to his family and close friends as a child. To this day, his family still refers to Juan as Nacho. While out for an impromptu game of trivia, we were trying to come up with a team name. I thought maybe Nacho and Guac and then naturally I had to finish the word, but "Mole" came out more like Molly and so our hashtag was born! It is perfect for us, because we pretty much live for chips and guac!
